A Summer Road Trip through Maine

A Summer Road Trip through Maine

When we think of Maine we think of fresh lobster, salty ocean air, and boating. A couple of weeks ago we took a Maine road trip and discovered that there was so much more to this beautiful state. We stopped in some in the smaller quaint towns along the way. Here are some photos from the trip.

Bath,ME

First stop, Bath Maine. Known for it’s 19th century architecture and the construction of sailing ships. Bath is home to one of the top ranked museums in the world, the Maine Maritime Museum. It’s also only 30 minutes away from the beautiful Reid State Park which we had the pleasure of spending an afternoon at. The rocky coastal beaches just add such an incredible juxtaposition.

Don’t forget to carve out some time for a true authentic Maine lobster experience at Five Island Lobster. It’s not to be missed.

Hallowell, ME, Skohegan, ME, Waterville, ME

The next few stops were the towns of Hallowell and Skowhegan where we explored some local trails, ate at a few breweries, and checked out a cute antique shop. Each town brings its own unique laid back charm.

While in Waterville, we thoroughly enjoyed dinner and drinks at Front & Main, a new restaurant in town that's getting rave (and well deserved) reviews. We also visited the Colby College Art Museum to check out their current exhibitions.

Waterford, Maine

For our last night in Maine we had a dreamy stay at Bear Mountain Inn. This property is so serene. Our room had more of a cozy cottage feel to it with it’s rich wood tones. We soaked in the jacuzzi during sunset and then headed into town for dinner at Norway Brewing Co. They serve great beers and classic bar fare.

Monhegan Island, ME

We decided to spend our last day in Maine on Monhegan Island. Accessible only by boat, this unique island is 10 miles off the nearest mainland. While fishing and tourism are the islands main source of income, art lovers, creatives, and folks who just value isolation, peace and quiet really gravitate towards Monhegan Island.
